FORT PULASKI

When completed in 1847 with its 25 million bricks and walls 7.5 feet thick, FORT PULASKI was the ultimate defense system of its day. Part of a series of forts which protected major seaports from foreign attack, the stronghold would not be tested until the Civil War. Seized by Georgia state troops early in the war, the fort was besieged by Federal forces. Here on April 11, 1862, defense strategy changed worldwide when Union rifled cannon, firing from more than a mile away on Tybee Island, first over came a masonry fortification.

The effectiveness of rifled artillery, which fired a bullet-shaped projectile with great accuracy at long range, was clearly demonstrated. After only 30 hours of bombardment, the walls were breached and the Confederates surrendered. The fall of FORT PULASKI tightened the Union blockade of southern ports and kept Savannah from exporting cotton and importing military supplies and civilian goods so vital to the Confederacy. But more importantly, the success of the new weapon marked the end of the era of masonry fortifications.

The commander of the Union forces captured the military world's surprise in these words... "The result of this bombardment must cause...a change in the construction of fortifications as radical as that foreshadowed in naval architecture by the conflict between the Monitor and Merrimac. No works of stone or brick can resist the impact of rifled artillery of heavy caliber." Major General David Hunter, U.S. Army.

We live about 10 minutes away from Fort Pulaski. We are actually minutes from many major Civil War Forts. I'm not usually one to enjoy historic sites (just because I tend to get bored.) but I actually LOVE these Forts. They are so awesome to walk around. This may sound strange but there is so much beauty in these places. It is crazy to think that These men put so much effort into building these Forts. Fort Pulaski is Awesome. It is huge. The under ground bunkers are a little creepy but I still love to explore them.

Milestones.... and randomness

Geeze.... I don't even know where to begin. I have not wanted to Blog because I know I am so far behind, but I just dumped 700 pics from my phone onto my computer. I figured if I could just post some of my favorites, it would tell a pretty good story on whats going on in my life. I need to take the time and blog so that that I can always remember my sweet little boys and the cute things they do. So I know these are all really random, but just bare with me.

Grey is getting so big. He is moving around so well and I think he is catching up in size. He is SOOOO good. I don't know why I have always been blessed with perfect, content little babies, but I am so grateful for it. I am trying to get him used to shoes, but he doesn't like them too much.
Brogan just looks so cute on his way to church. he is taking his tithing money... Vance blocked me in with his army men. He LOVES playing with these little guys. I think it's cute but I hate stepping on the darn things

Vance got a new cat. I can't even explain how much Vance loves animals. I think he is an animal whisperer. When he first got this kitten, he names him Smoker, but recently he has been calling him Tommy. He said Tommy is a better name. He named other neighborhood cats Booster and sleepy. He doesn't takes his hands off Tommy. I;m happy he is such a good little cat and puts up with Vance's roughness.

After talking about it FOREVER, the boys finally got bunk beds. It has been the greatest thing ever! I love how their room is more open now. The boys love it too.

Just some cute little pics of my boys being boys. I just can't even believe that I got 3 boys. Sometimes I have to step outside the box and look at my life. Why did I get so blessed with these guys? Every day gets better with them. Clearly, they are so over taking pictures for me, but I love every shot that I get of them. Each one of them has their own perfect personality and I love that about each one of them.

Loving life still....

We go to the beach SOOOOO much. Its the only place to truly relax and let the kids get their energy out at the same time. Grey us finding is place as a little beach bum. I love being out with family and friends. My boys are such good little swimmers in the ocean. They are pretty fearless, (that worries me a bit) but we just keep very good watch on them. They know the rules and the routine so well and they help make it a pleasure for us to go to the beach. Don't get me wrong, it is still a lot of work, and very tiring to take 3 boys, coolers, boogie boards, chairs and much more out there, but it actually serves as a good work out for the day:)

I love this pic. Bro got my skin and he tans very well... little Vance, Not so much. We apply 70 spf on Vance every hour and Brogan gets 4 spf just once and he is good.
